Above: Bacchus, by Caravaggio. This oil-on-canvas painting was created by the Italian artist Caravaggio circa 1595, shortly before the artist entered into a dark and austere phase of his life. This work was discovered in 1916, in the storeroom of the famous Uffizzi Gallery in Florence, Italy, and is now on display there. Thank goodness!
